Vision and Mission Statements
Vision statements tend to be grandiose proclamations about changing a fundamental way that business is done. It’s great to be a visionary and if that is in fact your goal – proclaim away. The business world (in this case agriculture business) often benefits from persons that are willing and able to challenge the status quo. If however you are not sure that what you are doing is more self-preservation than visionary then you may wish to pass this over and wait till a better time to make your mark on history.
Mission statements tend to be a little easier to do. Focus on what problem you are solving for the consumer and make this your mission. It may not seem like something as simple as setting up a roadside stand as a mission, but in fact you are offering people the opportunity to get and enjoy farm-fresh produce. This is a health conscience alternative that deserves to be worthy of your mission statement.
